George M. Baucum
George M. Baucum was born George Clayton O'Neal Jr., February 15, 1932 in McAlester, Oklahoma, to George C. and Rosalie Weeks O'Neal. He died Monday, May 23, 2011 at Duncan Regional Hospital at the age of 79.
He graduated from Waurika High School in 1949 and worked as a Linotype operator in area newspapers, including theWaurika News-Democrat, Ryan Leader and Duncan Banner.
In 1958 he was employed by the Wichita Falls Police Department and became training supervisor. Baucum joined the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission in 1974 and was stationed at Odessa. He worked both undercover and open inspection in West Texas and on the Mexican border. He received his Bachelor's and Master's Degree from the University of Texas system and was appointed chairman of the department of criminal justice and director of the East Texas Police Academy at Kilgore College. He joined the faculty at Odessa College in 1988 and was a professor of criminal justice. He retired in 1995, moving to Duncan.
He is survived by two brothers, Shawn and Shane O'Neal of Tulsa; a niece and a nephew.
Graveside service will be Thursday, May 26, 2011 at 1:00PM at the Waurika Cemetery with Rev. Jeff McLemore officiating. Services will be under the direction of Dudley Funeral Home in Waurika. Visitation will be Tuesday from noon-8PM and Wednesday from 9-8PM. Memorials may be made to the National Kidney Foundation.
