Fred Chester Cerney

Fred Chester Cerney passed from this life Friday, February 14, 2003, in the Jefferson County Hospital at the age of eighty-three. He was born April 13, 1919, to Joe and Mary Cerney in Addington, Oklahoma. Mr. Cerney was a mechanic at several places including the Oldsmobile dealership in Waurika, Oklahoma. He farmed in Addington, raising cotton and livestock. He retired from Halliburton in 1981, from his position as security officer. He and Myrtle Cleveland were united in marriage on February 24, 1950, in Waurika. Fred was a graduate of Addington High School and was a member of the Addington Baptist Church.

Survivors include: one son - Fred Cerney, Jr. and his wife Carol of Taft, TX; one step-son - Lynn Strand of Wellston, OH; one daughter - Regina and her husband Wayne Anthony of Waurika, OK; one step-daughter - Alvena and Jack Smith of The Dalles, OR; one nephew; two nieces; two grandsons - Jeff Anthony of Waurika, OK, and David Cerney and his wife Beth of Springfield, MO; one granddaughter - Jennifer and her husband Ron Carr of Irving, TX; two great-grandchildren - Katie and Luke Cerney; five step-grandchildren; ten step-great-grandchildren; and eight step-great-great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his wife Myrtle Cleveland Cerney, his parents Joe and Mary Cerney, two brothers and one sister.

Funeral services for Mr. Cerney were at 10:00 AM, Monday, February 17, 2003, at the Addington Baptist Church with Teddie Bulla and Mike Bernhardt officiating. Burial was in the Addington Cemetery under the direction of Dudley Funeral Home of Waurika. Memorial contributions may be made to the Addington Baptist Church, the Waurika Church of the Nazarene, or the American Heart Association.
