Fern Payne, 93, passed away July 11, 2001, in Waurika, Oklahoma, after a long illness. She was born September 4, 1907 in Hastings, Oklahoma to L.C. and Gertrude Beebe.

Mrs. Payne married Elmer Payne on January 12, 1926, in Duncan, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on May 16, 1967. Mrs. Payne and her husband operated a grocery store in Waurika from 1948 until his death in 1967. She later work for department stores in the community. She was a member of the Waurika Church of Christ.

Survivors include: two daughters, Gertrude Waid of Waurika, and Cleo Williamson of Dallas, TX; one son, Charles Payne of Florence, AL; six grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be Friday, July 13, 2001 at 2:00 PM at the Waurika Church of Christ with Virgil Trout of Ardmore, officiating. Interment will be in the Waurika Perpetual Care Cemetery under the direction of Dudley Funeral Home of Waurika.

Pallbearers will be Dowd Waid, Lance Waid, Jesse Barrick, Ceburn Lovett, Ed Trout, and Larry James. Honorary pallbearer is great-grandson Evan Waid.
