Fern Major was born August 15, 1915 in Waurika, Oklahoma to Rolla and Catherine Dyer Weatherly. She passed from this life Wednesday, July 22, 2009 at United Regional Hospital in Wichita Falls, Texas at the age of ninety-three. Fern and Glen John Major were married June 29, 1935 in Duncan, Oklahoma. Fern was a homemaker and taught school. She was very active in the First Baptist Church in Ryan since 1938, where she taught sunday school. Missions were her love. She served twenty -five yers as WMU President with three very active circles. She was very active in the community and will be missed.
She is survived by her son - Cal Major and wife Dana of Ryan, Oklahoma, two brothers - Kenneth Weatherly and wife Linda of Cleo Springs, Oklahoma and Mike Weatherly and his wife Wilma of Las Cruces, New Mexico, seven grandchildren - Kevin Cain, Bret Cain, Steven Cain, Renee Cain, Glen Major, Brian Major, and Lisa Fleetwood, eleven great grandchildren - Cassie Cain, Cali, Austin, and Landry Major, Shelley Cain, Hayden, Kamryn and Kason Major, Dillon and Miles Ellis and Major Fleetwood and two great great grandchildren - Jasmine and Micah Villarreal.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, daughter - Margie Cain, and two brothers- Elmo and Bill Weatherly.
Funeral service for Fern will be Saturday, July 25, 2009 at 11:00AM at the First Baptist Church in Ryan with Bro. Clarence Mize and Bro. Jason Vance officiating. Burial will be in the Ryan Cemetery in Ryan under the direction of Dudley Funeral Home in Ryan. (612 Washington) Visitation will be Thursday and Friday from 10AM-8PM. Memorials may be made to the Arthritis Foundation.
