Eunice Eva Cantrell
Eunice Eva Cantrell was born August 2, 1912, in Vera, Texas to Henry H. and Eva Fowler Machen. She passed from this life Monday, July 1, 2013, in Lawton at Southwestern Medical Center at the age of 100 years and 11 months.
Upon graduation from high school in Seymour, Texas, Eunice assisted her parents in a farm and ranch operation. She married Steve Jim Cantrell September 24, 1939 in Seymour, Texas. They farmed in Texas for several years before moving to the Waurika/Hastings area in December of 1954, where they operated a farm and small dairy business. In addition to farming Eunice worked outside the home for 16 years at the Woods Nursing Home in Waurika. Eunice and Steve were married almost 39 years at his death in 1978. Eunice loved the Lord and her church and considered it an honor to serve in any capacity. She helped in Vacation Bible School and worked at the Benevolent Building for over 20 years. Her biggest joy was to help those in need as she would cook, help coordinate funeral dinners, and take meals to families who had lost loved ones or those that were sick. Eunice never shied away from work which was evident by logging over 5,000 hours as a member of the Waurika Ladies Auxiliary. She was 82 years of age when she and her good friend, Gertrude Waid, were still delivering food for Meals on Wheels. It was her involvement with the church and community that led to her nomination for Outstanding Female Senior in Oklahoma for 1995. In 2008 at the age of 95 she moved to Lawton to live with her daughter and placed her membership with Northwest Church of Christ.
She is survived by her children - William Cantrell and wife Jo of Burkburnett, Texas, Floyd Cantrell, Lucetta Pullins, and Jim Cantrell and wife Beverly all of Lawton, Oklahoma, five grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, one sister, and two grandchildren.
