Eugene Everett Hight, of Hastings, Oklahoma, went to his heavenly home on June 7, 2003. Mr. Hight was born December 23, 1920, at Spain Hill, southwest of Hastings, Oklahoma, to Everett and Lelia Hight. He and Ruth Borum Hight were married in 1941. They moved to the current home place where Eugene farmed and ranched. He was a substitute mail carrier for the Hastings routes from 1949 to 1952. He began work for Halliburton Oil Company in Duncan in 1951 and retired from there after thirty-four and one-half years.
Mr. Hight was an integral part of the Hastings and Waurika communities. He served on the Board of Education for the Hastings School District. He was vice president when he served on the Farmers Union Board. He also served on the Farm Home Administration Board of Directors. He was a co-founder and board member of the Hastings Senior Citizens Center. He was a member of the First Methodist Church in Waurika. He loved people and often shared his curious nature and jokes.
Survivors include: two daughters and sons-in-law - Don and Carolyn Burton of Lawton, OK, and James and Jackie Wood of Lawton, OK; one son - Don Hight of Hastings, OK; one sister - Louise Clark of Hastings, OK; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and many wonderful friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth; his parents; one brother, Richard Hight, and a grandson, Ryan Jay Wood.
Funeral services for Mr. Hight were at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, June 11, 2003, at the First United Methodist Church in Waurika, with Rev. Reed Montgomery and Pastor Neal Burum officiating. Burial was in the Hastings Cemetery under the direction of Dudley Funeral Home of Waurika. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hastings Senior Citizens Center, the First United Methodist Church of Waurika, or the charity of your choice.
