Esther Brantley Henderson

Esther Brantley Henderson, ninety, of Waurika went home to be with her Lord April 1, 2010 at Jefferson County Hospital in Waurika. Esther was born February 18, 1920 to Henry and Savannah Hughes Brantley on their family farm in the Red Store Community.
She graduated Valedictorian from Temple High School in Temple, Oklahoma. She also graduated from Draughon's Business College in Wichita Falls, Texas. She was employed with White's Auto Stores as a bookkeeper for four years.
On March 20, 1943 Esther married Sgt. John B. Henderson, Jr. in Joplin, Missouri. When he eventually shipped overseas, she returned to the family farm and again was employed by White's Auto.
In 1946, after completing his tour of duty, J.B. returned home to Esther. He took over the family farming and ranching, and she took over the role of housewife and eventually mother.
Her hobbies included crocheting, sewing, "her kids", typing recipes, and finding funny stories to send to family and friends.
J.B. and Esther stayed on their Red River Farm until 1983 when a flood destroyed their home and farm. They then lived by Red Store for two years and in 1985 moved to Waurika.
Esther and J.B. enjoyed sixty-three years of marriage together. After J.B., passed away in 2006, Ester moved into the Westbrook Nursing Facility in 2008.
Esther was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one sister, and three brothers.

Survivors include: one daughter, Janice Snowden and husband Eldon of Loyal, Oklahoma; one son, David Henderson of Waurika; five grandchildren - Shelly Freelander and husband Nathan of Loyal, Oklahoma, Jay Snowden and wife Caroline of Loyal, Oklahoma, Holly Long and husband Shelby of Hollis, Oklahoma, Jason Henderson of Norman; Ten great grandchildren - Riley and Addison Grace Freelander of Loyal, Oklahoma, Noah, Jaxson, and Raegan Snowden of Loyal, Oklahoma, Jayden and Abigail Snowden of Loyal, Oklahoma and Merek, Keaton, and Ayden Long of Hollis, Oklahoma.

Funeral service will be Monday, April 5, 2010 a 11:00AM at the Dudley Funeral Home Chapel in Waurika with Rev. Jason Ebenhack officiating. Burial will be in the Waurika Cemetery under the direction of Dudley Funeral Home. Visitation will be Saturday from 10AM-7PM. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Waurika Senior Citizens.
