Esta Lucille Qualls Brown was born near Hasty, Arkansas, to Calvin and Eva Qualls on January 18, 1912. She passed from this life on February 10, 2002, at the age of 90.
Esta came to Oklahoma in about 1914, with her parents, in a covered wagon. They settled in the Tucker community and farmed. She graduated from Comanche High School and attended Cameron and Wada Womens College. She later taught school at Alamo and Graham. She and Billy A. Brown were united in marriage on September 15, 1933, in Waurika, Oklahoma. She and Bill farmed east of Comanche until 1960. They moved to Lockny, Texas, then to Groom, Texas, and Amarillo, Texas. In 1987, they moved to Warren, Oklahoma. Esta moved to live with her son Bob Brown, east of Addington, Oklahoma, in March of 2001.
Esta was baptized and attended church all her life. She was a homemaker and loved to grow her garden and sew. She enjoyed her family most of all. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sons - Johnny Mack and Jay B. Brown, and one brother, Gene Qualls.
Survivors include: two sons - Eddie L. Brown and his wife Loretta, of Warren, OK, and Bobby F. Brown of Addington; Jay's wife - Mary Gene Brown of Wichita Falls, TX; three daughters - Sue and Chris Rogers of Clayton, OK, Dana and Larry Danner of Harlingen, TX, and Judy and Louis Ruthhardt of Grooms, TX; one brother - Clyde and Betty Qualls of Comanche, OK; four sisters - Ora Bowen of Comanche, OK, Corene Weeaks of Comanche, OK, Dorothy Morgan of Comanche, OK, and Jerri and Junior Wood of Bakersfield, CA; eighteen grandchildren; forty-two great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 12, 2002, at Addington Baptist Church with Chris Rogers and Mike Bernhardt officiating. Burial was in the Addington Cemetery under the direction of Dudley Funeral Home of Comanche.
