Edith Alice McManus

Edith Alice McManus born August 25, 1923 passed away October 1, 2008, she was 85 years old. Edith was born to Henry Allen and Pearl (Raeburn) Ramsey in Muse, Oklahoma.  The world will be a little less exciting without her here.

Edith had a very full, active and exciting life and through her life she lived all around the United States, during World War II she lived in Las Vegas, NV and Los Alamos, NM. After the war she moved to Los Angeles, California where she gave birth to her only Daughter, Joanna (Fanning) Willard in 1947. In 1968 she and her husband Charles Wells moved back to Duncan, Oklahoma where she and her sisters and brother made a career picking pecans in Jefferson County.

In 1978 she moved to Greenleaf Idaho to be with her daughter and three grandsons. While in Idaho, Edith was an avid rock hound and spent hours scouring the Gem State for rocks and minerals to add to her collection. She became a very accomplished gemstone jewelry maker and regularly created beautiful pendants, necklaces, and rings for friends and family. Bringing her rock collection back to Oklahoma in 1983 was a big job!

Once Edith was back in Waurika she, her brother and two sisters went back to their career picking pecans around Jefferson County and that was the work of which she was most proud. She continued picking pecans with her brother and sisters until her brother died in 1995.

Edith married Truett McManus May 14, 2001 after a brief and fun filled courtship. From the moment they were married they were rarely apart. It was very common to see them driving around Waurika on their way to the Seniors Circle or to the truck top for lunch or dinner.  They regularly attended the Trinity Holiness Church in Waurika where they were active members. Truett and Edith were very much in love and enjoyed every day they spent together to the fullest. She was welcomed into the McManus family with open arms and she cared deeply about each one of them.

She was preceded in death by her father and mother Henry Allen and Pearl Ramsey, her brother Henry Allen (Junior) Ramsey, Jr., her sisters Mabel McKelroy and Nina Houston and her only daughter Joanna (Fanning) Willard.  She was also preceded in death by former husbands Ralph Fanning, Charles N. Wells, and J.B. Johnson.

Edith is survived by her husband Truett McManus, her grandsons Dave Lakhani, Bill Willard, Micah Willard and five great grand children, Levi and Cody Willard, Joey and Joshua Willard and Austria Lakhani.  She's also survived by her new grandchildren, Bill and Shirley McManus, Sandra Mogan and Charles McManus and their children.

Edith will be buried in Terral, Oklahoma in a family plot where many of her family are buried on Saturday, October 4, 2008. Edith's quick laugh, red hair (just do'n't call her red or it will cost you a fifty cent piece) and her wonderful sense of humor will be missed by everyone who knew her. Wife, Sister, Grandmother and Great Grandmother, Edith is loved and missed by all who had the chance to be touched by her grace.
