Earl Best

 

Earl Best was born to Frank Best and Vera LaFrona Baucom Best, February 5, 1926, in Comanche, Oklahoma. He passed from this life April 10, 2004, in Mesa, Arizona. He grew up and attended school in Comanche. He married Louise Lynch December 10, 1944. Louise preceded him in death May 20, 2001. Before her death they traveled extensively and both enjoyed life. Earl served in the Tenth Mountain Infantry during World War II. He was awarded two Purple Hearts for injuries sustained. He also received two Bronze Stars. He was a resident of Manitou Springs since 1945 and was manager of Broadmore Hotel/Garage for thirty-five years.

Earl was a soft-spoken, honest, kind and compassionate man who thrived on caring for others. He will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him.

Survivors include: one daughter - Jeanie Schekel and her husband Gary of Castle Rock, CO; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise, and his parents.

Graveside services for Mr. Best were at 10:00 AM, Thursday, April 15, 2004, at Fairlawn Cemetery in Comanche, Oklahoma, with Gene Jorgenson officiating. Burial was under the direction of Dudley Funeral Home of Comanche.
