When she was about 90 she decided she was no longer able to plant and care for her vegetable garden and told her family it would be the first time in 71 years that she had not had a garden which made her sad. She still tended her flower beds some, even in the last year. She made cakes and pies for her neighbors. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Waurika where she was a Sunday School teacher in her younger years and served on the bereavement committee for many years. She enjoyed reading, playing dominoes and bingo and also watched football and basketball on television. Doris moved to Lakeridge Place in November 2011 and enjoyed everything about living there including the staff, food, her apartment, and the friendly neighbors.
