James David Underwood, Sr.
James David Underwood, Sr., 61, of Ryan, Oklahoma, passed from this life Monday, September 14, 2015, in Wichita Falls, Texas. He was born July 21, 1954, in Waurika, Oklahoma, to J. D. and Nora Josephine "Bell" Underwood. He graduated from Ryan High School in 1972. He and Sheilah were married November 24, 1972, in Hastings, Oklahoma.
David and Sheilah are long-time members of the First Baptist Church in Ryan where he was a deacon and a Sunday school teacher. He served his community as a member of the City Council, the Ryan Public School Board, and the Ryan Volunteer Fire Department, and was an EMT with the Ryan Ambulance Service.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include: his wife Sheilah, of the home in Ryan, OK; three sons - James Underwood and his wife Jessica, Matthew Underwood and his wife Kelly, and Kristopher Underwood; special "daughter" Kim Rhoades and her husband Aaron; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; siblings Scott Underwood, Lynn Dewbre, and Phil, Dennis, and Merrianne Underwood; several nieces and nephews; and many other family and friends.
Funeral services for Mr. Underwood will be at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, September 16, at the First Baptist Church in Ryan, Oklahoma with Steve Spangler officiating. Burial will follow in the Ryan Cemetery under the direction of Dudley Funeral Home. Visitation will be Tuesday from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM at the Dudley Funeral Home Chapel in Ryan, with the family in attendance from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Wichita Falls, the Ryan Volunteer Fire Department or the First Baptist Church of Ryan.
