Darvin Ray Bates

Darvin Ray Bates, 82, of Waurika, Oklahoma, passed from this life Tuesday, February 23, 2016, surrounded by his wife and children. He was born December 14, 1933, in Waurika, Oklahoma, to Joe and Vada (Pope) Bates. He married Wanda Lois Hudson on August 7, 1953, in Montague County, Texas.
Darvin was a donut maker in his pre-teen years and delivered them by bicycle to local businesses in Waurika.  He married Wanda at the age of 19 and moved to Fort Worth, Texas where he was school custodian, mail carrier and then sold insurance.  He built and answered the call to Pastor the Holiness Church in Haltom City, Fort Worth Texas.  He then Pastored the Holiness Church in Waurika, Oklahoma before moving to Gainesville Texas and building and operating the Bates Catfish Farm and restaurant.  Over the years he owned and operated many restaurants.  He later had the the Truck Stop in Waurika Oklahoma, Country Kitchen and Ole South Waffle Shoppe in Duncan Oklahoma. His last years of cooking for the public were at the Waurika Senior Citizens Center. 
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Vada Bates, infant sister Betty Ruth, sister Melta Faye Wright and brother Billy Joe Bates. 
Survivors include: his wife Wanda, of the home, children - Garland Bates and his wife Deedee, Rhonda and her husband Larry Oyster, Tim Bates and his wife Lori, and Rebekah and her husband Tom Chappel; brother Jimmy Don Bates; sister Leota Daughtry; grandchildren - April and her husband Greg Warnasch, Raeanne and her husband Daniel Kent, Cassie Bates, Chris McAfee and his wife Brenda, Brandon McAfee and his wife Brandi, Tonya and her husband Chris Fuller, Darvin McAfee and his wife LeAnna, George Oyster and his wife Christy, Misty and her husband Mike Teakell, Jason Bates, Amy and her husband Cody Johnson, Sara Bates, Shi-Anne and her husband Josh Spencer, Rodney Duran and his wife Vanessa, Ryan Barnes and his wife Cara, and Michael Date Barnes; step-grandchildren Ben and Rayce Chappel; and great-grandchildren - Hagen, Logan, Hunter, Ryder, Gracie, Chloe, Charlie, Kylee, Hayden, Kaylee, Justice, Jasmine, Magnolia, Darvin, Ivan, Logan, Carter, Garrett, Michaela, Mason, Bailey, Hope, Ethon, Braydon, Colton, Olivia, Preslee, Laynie, Jaxon, Caynon, Alyssa, Rodney Jr., Chris, Kaylee, Dallas, Jared, Bentley, and Liam.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM, Saturday, February 27, 2016, at the First Baptist Church in Waurika with Bro. Mayfield and Dow Pannell officiating. Burial will be in the Waurika Cemetery under the direction of Dudley Funeral Home of Waurika. Visitation will be at the Dudley Funeral Home Chapel in Waurika on Thursday from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM and Friday from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM with the family receiving visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Pallbearers will be Chris McAfee, Jason Bates, Brandon McAfee, Rodney Duran, Darvin McAfee, Ryan Barnes, Michael Barnes and George Oyster. Honorary pallbearers will be the great-grandsons.
