Darrell Ree Curington was born January 24, 1914, in Charlie, Texas to Rhoda Tucker Curington and Grover Cleveland Curington. He passed from this life March 12, 2007, at Westbrook Care Center. He graduated from Byers, Texas high school. He and Opal Hestand were married in Jacksboro, Texas, January 1, 1938. He and Opal moved to California after their marriage. He worked in the Kaiser Ship Yard in Richmond, California as a ship fitter building Liberty Ships during the war. In 1950, the family moved to a farm west of Waurika. One son, Noel, was born to Darrell and Opal. He was a life long member of the Waurika Church of Christ where he served as adeacon and then an elder for a number of years.
Survivors include: his wife of sixty-nine years, Opal, of the home in Waurika; one son, Noel Curington and his wife Kay of Waurika, OK; three grandchildren - Sherry and her husband Lance Waid of Waurika, OK, Gregg Curington and his wife Cindy of Yukon, OK, and Chereece and her husband Mark Jackson of Searcy, AR; eight great-grandchildren - Evan Waid, Rayel Jackson, Shelby Jackson, Emily Waid, Sawyer Jackson, Wesley Jackson, Kellan Curington and Makiah Jackson; and one sister, Naomi Tinsley of Nacogdoches, TX.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, C.H. Curington.
Funeral services for Mr. Curington were at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, March 14, 2007, at the Church of Christ in Waurika, Oklahoma, with Noel Curington officiating. Burial was in the Waurika Cemetery under the direction of Dudley Funeral Home of Waurika.
