Orville Cotton William Davis
Orville "Cotton" William Davis was born September 9, 1923 in Hopper, Arkansas to John Gilford and Bertha Ann (Markham) Davis. He and his family ventured across the Red River into Oklahoma in 1924 by wagon. He and his family made homestead in Sugden, OK while "Cotton" was growing up. He joined the military in 1941 and during his first tour received a good conduct medal among other awards for his dedication as a surgical technician. He then went on his second tour in 1945 and during this time served in WWII as a surgical technician while receiving a Bronze Star for his service. His third tour began in 1947 in which he proudly served his country with great pride until he sustained an injury that resulted in medical discharge. "Cotton" was proud to serve his country and loyal soldier throughout each of his tours. Upon receiving his discharge he then spent his time raising his children and working in the oilfield. He then went to work at the Veterans Hospital in Oklahoma City, OK as a surgical technician until retirement. He then returned to Hastings after retirement where has has spent the past 35 years. "Cotton" was an avid member of the Hastings Sr. Citizens, and was honored by the Jefferson County 4-H as an honorary member. He passed from this life peacefully in his home on April 27, 2011.
He is survived by all that knew and loved him dearly.
Memorial service will be held Saturday, April, 30, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at the Addington Baptist Church in Addington, OK with Jason Ebenhack and Glen McGee officiating. Family request memorials be made to the Hastings Senior Citzens Center in Hastings, OK.
