Charles P. Herndon

Charles P. Herndon passed from this life to be with his heavenly Father on October 22, 2012. Funeral services will be held Thurs., Oct 25th, at Birdville Church of Christ, 3208 Carson St. Graveside service will be at the Waurika, OK Cemetery.
Charles was born December 31, 1935. He was a member of Birdville Church of Christ in Haltom City since 1972. He accepted Jesus as his Savior at the age of 19. Prior to Birdville, he attended Riverside Church of Christ. He was a charter member of Midtown Church of Christ and also attended Riverchase Church of Christ in Hoover, AL, while living in Alabama. Charles was born in Clarendon, TX and moved to Waurika, OK at age 6. He participated in sports and was on the Championship football team in high school. After graduation he served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He met and married Alice Winslett. They shared 55 years of marriage. Charles worked 22 years for Rock Island Railroad as a switchman and yardmaster. He was also the Treasurer/Manager of their Credit Union for many years. He worked for the Dept. of Transportation Federal Railroad Administration for 22 years. He was at the Birmingham, AL office for several years and then transferred back to Ft. Worth. He was appointed Chief Inspector, responsible for the state of Texas as well as four other states. His expertise was in short line railroads.
He is survived by wife, Alice, and three sons and their wives: Keith and Tammy Herndon, John and Rosario Herndon, and James and Donna Herndon. Grandchildren: Shanda Herndon-Shaw and husband Steven, Brandon Herndon, David Herndon, Elizabeth Herndon, Wesley Smith and wife Heather, Joshua Smith and wife Rashea, Tara Herndon-Deweese and husband Justin, and Michael D. Herndon. Great Grandchildren: Jade, Cayden, and Aubrey. Sister, Alma Regina Moore, and 7 nephews and 2 nieces.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Dewey and Clara Herndon; half-sister, Kathleen Barnett; and brother, Dewey E. Herndon.
