Bonnie Belle Lyle Aten
Funeral service for Bonnie Belle (Lyle) Aten, 95, Waurika, Oklahoma, will be at First United Methodist Church of Waurika, Oklahoma, on Wednesday, December 21, 2011, at 10:00AM with Rev. Karen Slater officiating. Burial will be in Waurika Cemetery under the direction of Dudley Funeral Home, Waurika, Oklahoma. Visitation will Tuesday, December 20, 2011 from 1-8PM at Dudley Funeral Home in Waurika.
Mrs. Aten passed from this life on December 13, 2011 at her home in Waurika. She is now absent from the body and face to face with the Lord Jesus Christ.
Bonnie Belle (Lyle) Aten was born December 1, 1916 in Shamrock, Texas to William Herman Lyle and Faye (Burch) Lyle. Her family moved to White Deer, Texas, after her father's return from France in 1919, after WWI. In 1924 they moved to Sudan, Texas. She graduated from Sudan High School in 1933, then attended Texas Women's University in Denton, Texas. In 1935, she transferred to Texas Tech in Lubbock, Texas.
On July 20, 1936 she married Louis Harold Aten, of Waurika, Oklahoma in Lubbock, Texas. Her husband had a military career which entailed many duty stations, including Schofield Barracks, Territory of Hawaii, on that infamous day in U.S. history, December 7, 1941.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Waurika, Oklahoma, The General Federation of Women's Clubs (Sorosis Club), Eastern Star, and Pearl Harbor Survivors Association. She was a twelve year volunteer for the Sooner Council of the Girl Scouts of America.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years - Louis Harold Aten, her parents - William Herman Lyle and Faye (Burch) Lyle, and her brother - William Herman Lyle, Jr.
Survivors include two sons and two daughters, Louis H. Aten, Jr. and wife Yoriko of Dean, Texas; John H. Aten and wife Cheryl, Fredericksburg, Virginia; Bonnie B. Aten of Dallas, Texas; Patricia (Aten) Coffman and husband W. Douglas of Fort Worth, Texas; Seven grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and a sister-in-law, Eleanor (Holman) Lyle, Lubbock, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the First United Methodist Church of Waurika.
