Betty Corkie Buchanan
passed from this life Monday, December 9, 2002, in Lubbock, Texas,
at the age of seventy-one. She was born March 7, 1931, in Erick,
Oklahoma, to Lavona and I.B. Carmichael. She was a member of the
Beta Tau Sorority and was a Baptist. She graduated from Waurika
High School in 1949, and earn an Associates Degree from State
Fair Community College in Sedalia, Missouri, where she lived for
twenty years. She moved to Lubbock, Texas in 1976, and was employed
with Bank of the West. In 1979, she moved to Wichita Falls, Texas
and was employed by the Wells Fargo Bank from 1979 to 2000. Upon
retiring from Wells Fargo in August 2000, she moved to Lubbock,
Texas where she enjoyed gardening, arts and crafts, and spending
time with her beloved granddaughter.
Survivors include: one daughter, Sidney Fleming and her husband Bob of Lubbock, TX; one granddaughter, Alexandra Fleming of Lubbock, TX; one sister Moleta and her husband Vernon Barnes of Waurika, OK; two sisters-in-law - Newana Carmichael of Bristow, OK, and Janey Carmichael of Duncan, OK, two step-brothers - Milton Durham of Hurst, TX, and Albert JR Durham of Arlington, TX; and eight nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, I.B. and Lavona Carmichael, and two brothers - C.M. and Warren Carmichael.
Funeral services for Mrs. Buchanan were at 11:00 AM, Saturday, December 14, 2002, in the First Baptist Church of Waurika with Audie Durrough officiating. Burial was in the Waurika Cemetery under the direction of Dudley Funeral Home of Waurika. Pallbearers were Gary Brown, Bob Johns, Roy Lowe, Russell Brown, Matt Hill, Chad Hill, and Jack Minney. Honorary pallbearers were Vernon Barnes and Milton Durham.
