Bessie Pauline Cullar Golden


Bessie Pauline Cullar Golden, ninety-one, died June 20, 2007, at the Westbrook Nursing Home in Waurika, Oklahoma. She was born June 24, 1915, in Caddo, Oklahoma, the youngest of four children born to James Childress and Birdie Cullar. In December of 1915, she moved with her family from Caddo to a farm east of Waurika, Oklahoma. The family had received Indian land from the Choctaw Tribe on her mother's side and the family began farming. Mr. Cullar died unexpectedly in 1917, and Mrs. Cullar raised the family alone.

Bessie grew up on the family farm and attended public schools in Waurika. She graduated from Waurika High School in 1934, and began working for the Law Offices of Guy Green as a stenographer. On October 15, 1935, she married Leonard Golden in Waurika, where the couple made their home. She worked for the Jefferson County Agent's office for several years after the death of Guy Green. After her retirement she remained at home and cared for her mother until her death in 1968. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church in Waurika.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services for Mrs. Golden will be at 2:00 PM, Saturday, June 23, 2007, at the Gethsemane Cemetery in Caddo Oklahoma, with Rev. Charles Loyd officiating.
