Beatrice E. Baker was born June 2, 1912, in Bonita, Texas to the late W.P. and Clara Ferguson Baker. She attended school in Terral, Oklahoma, until she had to quit in order to care for her invalid mother. She worked for ten years as chief switchboard operator in Ryan, Oklahoma, for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. She later worked for Duncan Drug in Duncan, Oklahoma. She was united in marriage to Robert Happy Hughes February 25, 1934. They had a foster son, Gerald Correll they raised many years. Her husband, Happy, passed away April 1, 1978. At that time she moved back to Ryan to be near her brother, Johnny. Beatrice was the last ot eight brothers and sisters. Beatrice was a very faithful member of the Ryan Church of Christ. She passed away Friday, October 22, 2004 at Nocona Hospital.
Survivors include: one sister-in-law,
Peggy Riley Baker of Ryan, OK; several nieces and nephews whom
she loved like her own; two special close friends, Venis Coats
of Wichita Falls, TX, and Iona Lewis of Ryan, Ok; and a host of
other friends.
Funeral services for Mrs Hughes were at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, October
26, 2004, at the Ryan Church of Christ with Rodger Schwenn and
Lawrence Lewis officiating. Burial was in the Ryan Cemetery under
the direction of Dudley Funeral Home of Ryan.
