Alta Maxwell Walker

Alta Maxwell Walker departed this earth and went to meet her maker on Christmas morning, December 25, 2013 at the age of 90. Alta was born on April 20, 1923 in Duncan, Oklahoma.
She was seventeen-years-old when she married Woodroe Leo Maxwell on July 21, 1940. Pastor Robert Headrick united the couple in marriage on a bright summer day at the First Methodist Church in Comanche, OK. Alta's brother and wife, F.A. Mitchell and Lucille stood up as witnesses for the newlyweds. Alta and Woodroe Maxwell were blessed with four daughters, Joyce Gordon, Jeannie Giambalvo, June Valls and Jeanette Harrigan. They also raised two granddaughters, Sherrie and Deborah Odom. Woodroe passed away in 1987 at the age of 69. Alta's mother, father, brothers, and sisters also predeceased her. Along with her four girls, Alta had eleven grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and another great-great grandchild on the way. Alta had many talents. At one point in her life, she made dolls that could have sold for hundreds of dollars if she had desired to sell them instead of giving them away. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, visiting with friends and she especially loved singing gospel hymns. In 2000, Alta heard that a childhood friend who lived in California had lost his wife. She called her friend to offer her sincere condolences. The two old-time friends rekindled their friendship that grew into love. Alta grew up with Jesse James Walker in Ringling, Oklahoma. Jesse enlisted in the Navy at the age of 19. When he moved to California, they lost contact with each other. Seventy-three years swiftly passed from the time Alta and Jesse first met as youngsters. They were senior citizens now, but felt a mutual trust and friendship for each other. They each developed the lure of love, camaraderie and companionship for each other and were united in marriage at the Rainbow Lodge in Walton, New York on July 25th, 2004. The two long-time sweethearts were never apart from each other from that time on until Alta's untimely death on Christmas Day, December 25, 2013.
The funeral service for Alta was held at Dudley Funeral Home, 414 Elm St., Waurika, Oklahoma. She was buried in Waurika Cemetery beside Woodroe Maxwell, her first husband and father of her girls on Saturday, December 29, 2013. Alta's family would appreciate everyone's prayers. For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withers, and the flower thereof falls away: But the word of the Lord endureth forever. 1 Peter 1:24-25
