Alma Lee Fulton, of Abilene, Texas, died Tuesday, April 8, 2008,
in a local nursing center. She was ninety-six. She was born September
8, 1911, in Garvin County, Oklahoma, to George Wylie and Martha
Elizabeth Hunt. She had nine siblings, all of whom preceded her
in death. Alma graduated from Shawnee High School in Shawnee,
Oklahoma, in 1929, and earned a Bachelors Degree in history from
East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma, in 1934. She married
Lafayette Fulton July 5, 1939. He preceded her in death in 1984.
They were the parents of three children, Joseph Lafayette, Linda
Lee, and Loretta Ann Fulton. Joe died in 1974, Linda died in infancy,
and Loretta lives in Abilene, Texas.
Alma was an elementary school teacher, sharing her knowledge and love of learning with countless children in Oklahoma and Texas. Next to her family and friends, she loved her students more than anything and delighted in helping them achieve their potential. She moved to Abilene in 1993, to live with her daughter. A lifelong Methodist, she taught Sunday school from age sixteen until moving to Abilene at age eighty-two. She was a member of Epworth United Methodist church.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. (Friday) at Sears Methodist Center chapel, 3202 S. Willis St. Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Addington Cemetery in Addington, Okla., under direction of Dudley Funeral Home of Waurika, Okla.
Survivors include: her daughter, Loretta; a granddaughter, Christina Fulton, of Leesburg, VA; her daughter-in-law, Marian Matus and her family; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Sears Methodist Center for the loving care shown to Alma in the final years of her life.
Family visitation will be Friday, April 11, 2008, at Sears Methodist Chapel, 3202 S. Willis St. in Abilene. Graveside services will be at 11:00 AM, Saturday, April 12, 2008, at the Addington, Oklahoma Cemetery under the direction of Dudley Funeral Home of Waurika, Oklahoma.
